Welcome to Resurrection United Methodist Church
The
mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for
the transformation of the world. A United Methodist is someone who joins in that
mission by putting faith and love into action. We believe that God loves all people,
and that we share in expressing that love.
A United Methodist is someone who joins in that mission by putting faith and love
into action. We believe that God loves all people, and that we share in expressing
that love. So the United Methodist tradition emphasizes God's grace and in serving
others. We believe that Jesus Christ is the fullest expression of God's love--showing
us the fullness of God's care through Jesus' teachings, death and resurrection.
John Wesley started the Methodist movement in 18th century England. His teachings
on practical divinity (living out our faith) and appeals to reason and experience
form important aspects of United Methodist practice today.

Meet Our Pastor
The
Rev. Dr. Ann On-Lin Tang was born and raised in Hong Kong and attended the Kowloon
United Methodist Church all her childhood. In 1983, she went on a mission trip in
East Malaysia and felt the call to cross-cultural ministry while searching her spiritual
roots. After prayerful disarmament, Rev. Tang went to Manchester, England to study
her bachelor’s degree in theological studies in British Isles Nazarene College (BINC)
in Disbury, Manchester. Here she met the missionary who spent his whole life ministering
to people from different religious backgrounds and cultures. This introduction served
as her confirmation and calling into full-time cross-cultural ministry.
After graduating from BINC with a bachelor’s degree, Rev. Tang went back to her
home church in Hong Kong as a local pastor and a chaplain in the church-related
middle school for four years.
In the summer of1992, Rev. Tang came to the United States to reunite with her parents
in Washington , D.C. and got a full scholarship to attend Wesley Theological Seminary
(WTS) for her master’s degree. She graduated with dual degrees, a Master of Divinity
and Master of Theological Studies. While she was at WTS, she also entered the candidacy
program for Ordination into the Virginia United Methodist Conference and got approved
by the DCOM Committee for ordination.
Rev. Tang took a year to advance her pastoral care experience at Cabell Huntington
Hospital in Huntington for a year-long Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). When her
application for citizenship was approved, she was ordained in Roanoke, Virginia
at the 1996 Annual Conference by Bishop Stockton as a Deacon under the 1992 Discipline.
Rev. Tang’s first appointment was at Sherbourne United Methodist Church in Chesterfield,
Virginia. She was the first ethic, single, female pastor in the history of that
church. After two years as their pastor, Rev. Tang was approved as an Elder in the
VAUMC and was ordained by Bishop Pennell in 1998.
She continued her academic journey for her Doctoral Degree at WTS and graduated
in 2002 with a Doctorate Degree in Pastoral Studies
The Rev. Dr. Tang has continued her cross-cultural ministry since the beginning
serving in the VAUMC. She also served as a Military Chaplain in the United States
Army for over 20 years and retired from her military service at the end of 2016.
Currently, The Rev. Dr. Ann On-Lin Tang is serving a congregation of majority Filippino
members at Resurrection United Methodist Church in Chesapeake Virginia. This is
her second year’s ministry with these Christians, reaching out to the neighbors,
and caring for the souls..
